Common joinery handmade (Course No.2)

June 21st-24th 2025

Total cost $975 per person

This 4-day workshop is a continuation of Course No.1 and will be suitable for woodworkers familiar with hand tools but who want to maximize their skills working by hand.

Using hand tools confidently can achieve speed, accuracy, and safety, impossible for machines to match when producing, one-off, bespoke builds.

So as a hands-on study in joinery of nine standard joints in common use today, you will learn :

  • to build a window frame of styles, rails, and muntins, using the nine different joints for assembly.
  • to lay out, mark up, and then use hand tools to cut and finish these joints
  •  to use hand tools to achieve an accuracy that will allow these joints to go together, flat and square.
  • Why do these different joints exist, and what they are used for?
  • to progress through the project so that this joinery goes together seamlessly.
  • to be confident to tackle any project, and to understand what tools are vital and why.

Create a trio of straight edges in wood that will not accidentally damage work which allows you to learn how to:

  • create an accurate jig
  • clean, sharpen, and set a large jointer plane
  • Plane parallel surfaces accurately
  • Prepare perfectly straight edges
  • Shaping
  • Finishing
