Finished building a project??
Well not untill you’ve applied a finish. Raw wood can sometimes be appropriate, for instance the inside of a drawer, leaving no smell.
But when it is so really easy to put down a good finish, with the stunning results that can be achieved, completely changing the project from great craftmanship to a beautiful, valuable, heirloom piece, that will last and age gracefully, the extra time is when it all comes to completion.
However, the two practical reasons to apply a finish to your project: protection and appearance.
Protection. Wood is a porous material, capable of soaking in anything that gets on it, and it needs to be sealed
Appearance. Because what we work with has a grain, some woods can be incredibly vibrant. Finishes add highlight, color, depth and wamth.
